Island developer Walid Wahba told Sky News Online: "We replicated the Hajj to educate both Muslims and non-Muslims about the journey. It shows people what the Hajj is and what we do when we're there. They can check out the worship of God."
A guest avatar on the Hajji said that the space was an excellent idea and would bring more people in contact with the Islamic community.
Since launching two weeks ago, the site has suffered attacks from an anti-Muslim gang of "griefers" - avatars who attempt to obstruct the enjoyment of others.
They surrounded the main building and plastered up pornography, shouting: "We will not leave this place unless this island is shut and Muslims are out."
The Islam Online team retaliated by storming the virtual building and forcing out the aggressors.
